Client: Brent + Maria
Project: Kitchen extension
Budget: 75K
Status: Completed 2010

Us Architects often dream of perhaps one day designing a modernist villa in the Hollywood Hills, so when Brent and Maria briefed us to extend their kitchen and bring in a little Hollywood chic we didn’t need holding back. They asked us to design a space that could be used as a family space as well as for Maria’s infamous cocktails parties.

The centre piece is a black slate ‘Hollywood Wall’ ordained with a bulls head and a bespoke fireplace, in the centre of the space is a cantilevered black glass island counter rests on a mirror box appearing to hover above the walnut floor below. Whereas the kitchen is far more understated as monochromatic blend of greys, and black white glass.

Although small it is definitely one of the most interesting and challenging projects of recent years, and a lot of credit for the end result should go to Maria’s attention to detail and Brent’s calmness.
